G R I M M E R

Electronic duo creating experimental music through structured improvisation, unconventional usage of hardware, and live processing in Max/MSP. The project is made of Boston- and Bergen-based composers Aaron Michael Smith and André Mestre, who work together to construct gridless live sets that focus on the intimate entanglement of noise.

A QUEDA DO CÉU (2020)

For octaphonic system and kinectic sculptures made of water, pine wood, nylon strings, acrylic mirrors, and mechanical exciters.

A sound art installation related to the Soundlapse Project, A Queda do Céu explores the acoustic features of the Valdivian wetlands and its conflicting place in the eyes of local residents. Visually, the work is reminiscent of the Arte Povera movement, and provides a minimalistic display of the wetlands constitutions, with and interplay between water, reflections, and hundreds of wooden pieces. The sculptural centerpiece is framed by a spatial and aural presentation that suggests, at the same time, both a critical and an aesthetic perspective on the these fragile ecosystems.

Rodrigo Torres, acoustic engineer

COMING UP AT THE BENDIGO INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF EXPLORATORY MUSIC (BIFEM):

O QUE VOS NUNCA CUIDEI A DIZER

Running across seven 30-minute cycles on Saturday 7 Sept, O que vos nunca cuidei a dizer (never did I dare to tell you one thing) is a gallery work that touches on issues of modality, transhumanism and cultural archaeology. A creative imagining of a long-lost song, this solo work presents its 20-per-performance audiences with an almost private, carefully facilitated interaction with sound, movement, and lyrical materiality.

This project was funded by InnovING:2030

ENSEMBLES

BU LAPTOP ORCHESTRA

Starting in the fall of 2017, I will be directing a newly created digital ensemble at Boston University. More details regarding our season, format, and programming will be coming soon.

This project is made possible by the generous support of an Arts Grant from The BU Arts Initiative – Office of the Provost.

Theater & Dance

Since 2008 I have worked on a number of projects outside the scope of concert music. These have been extremely rewarding and I look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with artists from different fields.

I would especially welcome projects that seek to build from the work of Grotowski who has become a central reference to my understanding of art.
